Sophie’s Hill Adelaide Hills

Sophie’s Hill in Meadows is home to our Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and Shiraz vines. Planted in 1996, it is one of the highest altitude sites in the Adelaide Hills Wine Region making it a premium site for these cooler climate loving varieties. With a natural balance between vine growth and yield, the vines here consistently produce high quality, low quantity fruit, with delicate flavours representative of the terroir of the site.

Sophie’s Hill soil is uniform across the site, with top soil consisting of shallow shaley loam overlying a free draining loamy clay with fragments of shale and ironstone.

Ranging from 450–570m in altitude, each variety has been planted to suit the site’s topography. Our Sauvignon Blanc is planted on south facing, cooler slopes while the Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay are planted at the highest points of the vineyard with rows running east to west to avoid afternoon sun on the bunches. The Shiraz is grown on the north facing, warmer and less vigorous slopes.

Sophie’s Hill is named after Mark’s daughter Sophie, who loves catching yabbies and having bonfires on the farm.
