Mark and Alison Gilbert created Karrawatta out of a love for elegant wine that reflects the site, soil and climate it comes from. With a long family history of wine production, winemaker and viticulturist Mark Gilbert moved to South Australia from Victoria to manage vineyards, going on to establish Karrawatta which now owns three iconic vineyards in South Australia. Mark combines his extensive knowledge of his vineyards, with soft and careful winemaking techniques that allow the wine to speak for itself. Karrawatta wine is made to be enjoyed both in its youth and in evolution but more importantly must be enjoyed in good company.
Alison Gilbert, Mark’s wife, sold the first bottle of Karrawatta in 2014 and when not helping with all facets of Karrawatta she can be found sharing her excellent wine knowledge in our cellar door or with Adelaide’s finest restaurants.
Together Mark and Ali are crafting Karrawatta wine every step of the way, from the vineyard to the bottle you take home.
