The Wine Front Review – Dairy Block Shiraz 2013

Karrawatta Dairy Block Shiraz 2013
Mature vines, whole bunch pressed, all French oak, 45% new. New Label but Mark Gilbert, the man behind it, comes from a family that’s been involved in the Australian wine industry since the 1840s. This 2013 Dairy Block Shiraz is released in October.
Bold, warm wine but spicy and complex. Attractive mix in itself, though a sheen of quality, cedary oak adds nicely to the spunk factor. Firm, fine-grained tannin. Bright red and blackberried fruit. Doesn’t lack grunt but is firm and controlled. Pretty much exemplary.
